Public invited to cabaret concert at JGS Lifecare in Longmeadow on Sept. 26

Singer Mary Jo Maichack of Holyoke to perform songs from the Great American Songbook

JGS Lifecare, a leading health care system serving seniors and their families, invites the public to enjoy the musical and storytelling stylings of Mary Jo Maichack on Wednesday, September 26 from 2–3 p.m. This free cabaret performance will be held in the Gloth Family Auditorium in the Leavitt Family Jewish Home on the JGS Lifecare campus of care, 770 Converse Street, Longmeadow.

Maichack will perform songs from the Great American Songbook accompanied by professional keyboardist Bob Shepherd, including standards of the ’20s–’40s and contemporary favorites, interwoven with personal anecdotes of her upbringing in a ‘60s music-loving family. Maichack is the great-niece of Vaudeville singer and actor Annette Dare.

“We are delighted to bring Mary Jo and her music to our residents and community,” said Susan Kimball Halpern, vice president of philanthropy at JGS Lifecare. “We recognize the powerful role music plays in our lives, as well as its therapeutic effects. Many of our residents benefit from our active Music & Memories Program every day; this event is a fun way to celebrate the many benefits of music and community.”

This cabaret event is free and open to the public. The program is supported in part by the Longmeadow Cultural Council, a local agency supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency, and by JGS Lifecare.

Maichack has spent 30 years as a full-time singer and storyteller and has won two national awards for her CDs of music and storytelling. She and Shepherd perform together frequently at venues throughout New England.
