“I wondered how I could show my appreciation individually for the care my husband has received at Wernick Adult Day Care. I wanted to do something. It was a wonderful thing to get the Wernick newsletter and the notice about improvements underway in the new garden area. Making the donation was a gift to me! And being able to see the beauty of what had been completed will be a wonderful thing!"

There are many ways to make a planned gift, depending on your goals and circumstances. Some of the most common planned giving options are:

Bequests

One of the easiest and most flexible ways to make a planned gift to JGS Lifecare is to leave a bequest in your will or trust. A bequest allows you to designate a specific amount, a percentage of your estate, or a certain asset to JGS Lifecare. By leaving a bequest, you can reduce the taxable value of your estate and ensure that your legacy of care lives on. You can also change or revoke your bequest at any time, giving you the freedom to adjust your plans as your circumstances change.

To make a bequest to JGS Lifecare, you can use the following sample language:

“I give, devise, and bequeath to JGS Lifecare, a nonprofit corporation located at 770 Converse Street, Longmeadow, MA 01106, the sum of $_______ (or _______% of my estate, or describe the specific property) for its general purposes.”

Life Insurance

You can name JGS Lifecare as a beneficiary of your life insurance policy, or you can donate your policy to JGS Lifecare and receive a tax deduction for its value. By giving life insurance, you can make a significant gift without affecting your current income or assets. You can also avoid estate taxes on the proceeds of the policy. Your beneficiaries will not have to pay taxes on the amount they receive from JGS Lifecare.

IRA Distributions

You can name JGS Lifecare as a beneficiary of your IRA account, or you can make a qualified charitable distribution (QCD) from your IRA to JGS Lifecare. A QCD is a direct transfer of funds from your IRA custodian to JGS Lifecare, up to $100,000 per year. By making a QCD, you can satisfy your required minimum distribution (RMD) without increasing your taxable income. You can also reduce your estate taxes by removing assets from your estate. You can also combine a QCD with a charitable gift annuity and receive a lifetime of payments in return for your contribution.

Stock (Click here for stock wire transfer instructions.)

You can donate appreciated stocks, bonds, or mutual funds to JGS Lifecare and avoid paying capital gains taxes on the increase in value. You can also claim a tax deduction for the fair market value of the securities.

Donor Advised Funds

You can recommend grants from your donor advised fund to JGS Lifecare at any time. This can simplify your charitable giving and provide tax advantages.

Property and Real Estate

You can donate your personal residence, vacation home, farm, commercial property, or undeveloped land to JGS Lifecare and receive tax and financial benefits. There are different ways of giving property and real estate, depending on your goals and circumstances. Some of the most common ways are:

  • Outright gift: You can transfer the title of your property or real estate to JGS Lifecare and receive an immediate tax deduction for its fair market value. You can also avoid capital gains taxes on the appreciation of the property. You will also reduce your estate taxes and probate costs by removing the asset from your estate1.
  • Retained life estate: You can donate your home or farm to JGS Lifecare but retain the right to live in it for the rest of your life or a term of years. You will receive a tax deduction for the present value of the remainder interest in the property. You will also avoid capital gains taxes on the appreciation of the property. You will remain responsible for the maintenance, insurance, and taxes on the property.

Charitable Gift Annuities

You can transfer cash, securities, or other assets to JGS Lifecare in exchange for a fixed income for life and an immediate tax deduction. The remaining value of the annuity will go to JGS Lifecare after your lifetime.

Charitable Remainder Trusts

You can create a trust that pays you or your beneficiaries a variable income for life or a term of years, and then transfers the remaining assets to JGS Lifecare. You can also claim a tax deduction for the charitable portion of the trust.

Charitable Lead Trusts

You can create a trust that pays JGS Lifecare a fixed or variable income for a term of years, and then transfers the remaining assets back to you or your heirs. This can reduce or eliminate gifts or estate taxes on the assets.

Making a planned gift is a meaningful way to express your gratitude and support for JGS Lifecare. By leaving a legacy of care, you can help us ensure that future generations of seniors will receive the best possible care and services.
