A Day That Makes a Difference for Your Loved One

On Monday, June 22, 2026, our community will gather at Twin Hills Country Club for the 45th Annual Frankel-Kinsler Classic Day of Tournaments, a day filled with fun, friendship, and purpose.

For many, it’s a day of golf, games, laughter, and community spirit.

For our residents, and for the families who love them, it is so much more.

For 45 years, the Frankel-Kinsler Classic has helped strengthen the programs, services, equipment, and technologies that support exceptional care across JGS Lifecare. From meaningful life enrichment activities to enhancements in resident safety and comfort, the impact of this event is felt every day by the people who call our community home.

Today, that support matters more than ever.

More than 63% of our residents rely on Medicaid, which currently reimburses approximately $97 less per day than the actual cost of care. This creates an annual shortfall of more than $4 million, a gap that philanthropy helps us bridge so we can continue providing the quality, dignity, compassion, and person-centered care our residents deserve.

And that care is deeply personal:

Brian in front of his favorite painting

When Brian first arrived at Sosin Center for Rehabilitation, Parkinson’s disease had significantly diminished his strength and independence. He was wheelchair-bound, struggling with medication-related hallucinations, and his brothers were deeply concerned about his well-being.

After completing rehabilitation, Brian moved to The Leavitt Family Jewish Home.

Our staff took the time to learn who Brian was beyond his diagnosis, his career as a wine buyer, his love of flowers, the routines and interests that brought him comfort and joy. Through thoughtful care coordination, rehabilitation support, engaging activities, and meaningful relationships with staff and volunteers, Brian began to flourish.

Today, Brian is walking again with the assistance of a walker. He participates in activities, helps the Life Enrichment team, and enjoys playing chess and pokeno with one of our volunteers, Joe.

His room overlooks one of our courtyards. Staff recently learned that Brian had once dreamed of retiring in Hawaii. They are now working with Brian to plant a garden outside his window filled with vibrant flowering plants reminiscent of the tropical beauty he loved, to create a view that will bring him peace and joy each day, while brightening the courtyard for others as well. We look forward to sharing photos of the finished garden upon its completion.

Brian’s story is a reminder that great elder care is not simply about meeting medical needs. It is about knowing the person, honoring their history, nurturing their spirit, and helping them continue to experience purpose, connection, and moments of happiness.

As Cheryl Gumlaw, Director of Life Enrichment, shared, “We don’t just care for our residents, we truly get to know them.”

Proceeds from this year’s Frankel-Kinsler Classic will help fund upgrades to our nurse call system, an important investment that will improve communication between residents and caregivers, enhance response times, strengthen staff accountability, and ultimately support better care outcomes and greater peace of mind for families. Resident like Brian will truly benefit from this updated technology.

We hope you will consider supporting our effort and being part of this special day.
