The 2022 JGS Annual Meeting, held on Thursday, September 22, was a joyous occasion, especially because it was the first in-person community gathering since the organization’s 2019 Annual Meeting. Spirits were high! “It is wonderful to have our community of supporters back in our building to hear about our recent accomplishments and our exciting vision for the coming year,” commented Susan Halpern, vice president of development and communications. “It was also a great opportunity to celebrate our staff for their hard work and phenomenal dedication.”

The meeting culminated with the presentation of the Chairman’s Service Award to Susan Goldsmith, a two-term past president of JGS Lifecare and long-time supporter. “It is my personal pleasure to pay tribute to my predecessor and dear friend,” said JGS Board Chair Dr. Stuart Anfang. “Susan provided outstanding leadership during four very tumultuous years. Under her wise guidance we emerged stronger and better positioned to face challenges and embrace new opportunities.”

Goldsmith, in her acceptance remarks, expressed her gratitude for the many blessings in her life, including, her parents, Ann and Ben Marcus, who taught her the importance of giving of yourself and being an active part of the community and her mother-in-law Irma Goldsmith, who asked her to join the Women’s Division of JGS Lifecare many years ago. She also thanked the past leaders of JGS Lifecare who set such a high standard and supported her in her two terms as chair of the board; and for the blessing of what she deemed the defining mark of chairmanship — the current affiliation of JGS Lifecare with Legacy Lifecare, a non-profit management resource collaborative that provides the resources and expertise to steward the continued success of non-profit elder care organizations like JGS Lifecare. Susan closed with a heartfelt exclamation. “Thank you for making my dream and your promise a reality.”
