JGS Lifecare Staff- The Heart of JSG Lifecare

LONGMEADOW, Mass. – As the COVID-19 pandemic unfolds, staff across the JGS Lifecare campus of care come to work each and every day, showing their devotion and commitment to the most vulnerable members of our community, our seniors. Many leave children at home or spouses who have lost their job due to the shutdown of non-essential businesses, fulfilling their commitment to attend to the needs of our seniors.

At this difficult time when residents can’t receive the comfort of family visits, JGS staff are stepping up to offer comfort and reassurance and limit any sense of isolation residents may be feeling. They make personal visits with mobile activities carts, schedule time for residents to communicate with their family through Skype and Facetime, take pictures and share them with families, and provide families with continual updates. At JGS Lifecare our staff are the heart of JGS!

Delila Jones, a member of the Life Enrichment staff at the Leavitt Familiy Jewish Home, took note of the Hearts for Healthcare movement on Facebook and immediately took action. “I saw this wonderful eruption of support for our caregivers and personally wanted to show appreciation to our fellow staff for all their hard work,” remarked Jones. The Life Enrichment team spent the morning and afternoon cutting out hearts of different colors and sizes and hung them on windows and doorways throughout the Leavitt Family Jewish Home. Different colored hearts represent different essential departments. Cheryl Gumlaw, Director of Life Enrichment, baked brownies, filling the Home with their comforting small, and both residents and staff enjoyed the delicious treat. In the lobby a sign says “Thank You” to all staff and all departments.

At JGS Lifecare we join our community in thanking our healthcare and essential workers through this gesture of love and gratitude. Thank you for caring for our community’s elders at their greatest time of need.
