Medical Social Worker at Spectrum Home Health & Hospice Care
Born and raised in Longmeadow, MA, Ellen Rosemond’s impressive career spans 27 years, with 12 of the years working at JGS Lifecare. For Ellen, it has been an incredibly rewarding experience, made even more so when she was asked in 2015 to join the Spectrum Hospice Team. As she stated, “I love the varied aspects of this role. Getting to hear the true-life stories of the patients and families about their lives is amazing!”
After attending Trinity College in Washington, DC to get her BA in History, Ellen went on to receive a MSW from Springfield College. Notably, her first internship for was with Greater Springfield Senior Services in the Protective Services Department. Here she was introduced to working with an elderly population who displayed complex medical and psychosocial needs.
When Ellen joined JGS Lifecare in 2010 as a social worker, she worked on the A1 and C2 units. In her current role as Medical Social Worker at Spectrum, she wears several hats. While her main position is to function as the social worker and bereavement coordinator for the hospice team, she also coordinates hospice volunteers. “My work is truly gratifying,” stated Ellen. “I enjoy helping individuals adjust to multiple life and health changes, set goals, and provide a support system so they can voice their fears and wishes.”
Ellen credits her satisfaction with her job, in large part, to her talented team. “They are caring, compassionate and so good at what they do,” remarked Ellen. “I feel fortunate, every single day, that we get to work with each other. Our team processes the losses we experience and problem solve challenging cases together.” Added Ellen, “I am inspired by the entire staff at JGS Lifecare throughout our whole campus. I have always felt that no one department is any more important than another, and that everyone’s ideas and contributions matter. In fact, It is our staff that make us so exceptional! I’ve seen so many examples of staff members going ‘above and beyond” to provide comfort for a resident. Clearly, this degree of compassion sets our organization apart from others.”
On a personal note, Ellen resides in the Forest Park section of Springfield with her husband Michael and their four children: Maggie (22), Tommy (20), Sean (18) and Mary (12). In her spare time, Ellen enjoys hiking, playing tennis and reading as well as attending her children’s many sporting games and activities. It is a busy, full life and joyful life, and Ellen wouldn’t have it any other way!
