JGS Lifecare’s 43rd Annual Frankel Kinsler Classic Day of Tournaments Raises over $118,000 for Senior Care

JGS Lifecare held its 43rd Annual Frankel-Kinsler Classic Day of Tournaments at Twin Hills Country Club in Longmeadow, on Monday, June 15th.  Over 200 people participated in golf, pickleball, card-playing tournaments, and a celebratory awards dinner.  The event raised over $118,000 to support JGS Lifecare’s various senior care services.

Strong Community Support

JSG Lifecare expressed its gratitude for the overwhelming support from businesses and individuals throughout Western Massachusetts. Over the past 43 years, the Frankel Kinsler Classic has raised more than $2 Million for elder care. These donations have funded various improvements, including new resident vans, resident furnishings, hi-low beds, computer technologies to help keep elders stimulated, engaged and connected to their families; new flooring, and more. This year, tournament proceeds will directly support programs and services that enhance the quality of life for residents.

“As an organization whose majority of funding comes through Medicaid, the Frankel-Kinsler Classic is an enormously successful and fun way for us to engage the community to provide fiscal resources to help us maintain our quality of care and enrich our programming,” commented Susan Kimball Halpern, vice president of development at JGS Lifecare. “We are so grateful for the tremendous show of support from area businesses and individuals who join us in our commitment to care for our elders.”

A Model of Personalized Care

The event highlighted the success of The McDonald House, at Leonard Florence Center for Living in Chelsea, MA, a sister organization to JGS Lifecare, which uses a person-centered care model. At the McDonald House, the environment, programming and staffing have been intentionally designed around principles of the Green House® model of small house care to successfully meet the special needs of people living with spinal cord injuries and ALS. This model has proven to enhance individual’s dignity, independence and quality of life. JGS Lifecare has successfully implemented this model at Sosin Center for Rehabilitation and is committed to implementing similar care principles at The Leavitt Home, to meet the specific needs of those in need of skilled nursing home care in our local community.

Looking Ahead

The JGS Lifecare Board of Directors is excited to bring person-centered care and principles of the Green House® model of small house care to The Leavitt Home. Details on these plans will be shared at the JGS Lifecare Annual Meeting on October 8th.
