Message from Rob Whitten, President of JGS Lifecare

November 9, 2022

Dear Residents and Families,

During the month of November it’s traditional to reflect upon the things we are most grateful for in our lives. This year I am sincerely grateful for having the honor of working at JGS Lifecare, along with so many colleagues who are truly committed to the needs of those in our care. With the challenges that the past several years have presented, the resolve and perseverance on our campus have been remarkable. While many in our industry continue to struggle, JGS is thriving and growing.

I would also like to congratulate the Leavitt Family Nursing Home for obtaining the highest possible rating from the Center for Medicare Services. During the month of October we officially became a 5- Star nursing home provider. This accomplishment is no small feat! It is yet another example of our outstanding employees.

In closing, I would like to share that during the month of October JGS held a Years of Service banquet to honor employees celebrating 5, 10 and 15 year anniversaries. In addition, we also honored every employee with 20 years or more of service. In total, 47 employees were honored. This number represented a total of 776 years of service. John Roy, our most tenured employee, was honored for his 38 years of service with JGS Lifecare. Congratulation John and to all of you!

Warm regards,

Rob

People are Talking!

November 10, 2022

Feedback from our residents and families is crucial to making our residences the best they can be. Through our surveys, phone calls and day-to-day interaction, we continuously take into consideration each and every comment.

Another way to provide essential feedback is through our virtual Town Hall Meetings, which are held for residents and families in our skilled nursing residences. These meetings enable you to ask questions, find out about activities and events and discuss any issues or concerns. It’s also a great way to interact with other families. This month Katzman Center will hold its meeting on November 29; Leavitt Family Jewish Home will be on November 30 at 5:30pm; the Leonard Florence Center meeting will be held on December 1 at 5:30pm and Brudnick Center will be held on December 13.

Below are a few of the comments we received recently as well as Zoom invites to the virtual Town Halls Meetings. We welcome your participation!

Family Feedback

“I appreciate how knowledgeable the staff is about my loved one, how they really care about her well- being and how patient and considerate they act towards family members.”

“The accommodations and staff are excellent! What I noticed the most is that everyone knocks before they enter a room.”

Behind the Scenes at JGS

November 8, 2022

We all remember being taught not to waste food, so do you wonder what we do with overly ripe bananas a Leavitt Family Jewish Home? Clearly, we don’t throw them out. We bake banana bread! Our residents love to cook…you can see by the broad smile on Anne’s face that she likes to help out. And the sweet smell of baking banana bread feels just like home! Our staff love to stop by and to sample a piece -or two.

Our residents love to show off their skills at our bowling tournament, held in the Hy and Roz Gloth Auditorium. Some stand and some sit to bowl the ball, and everyone has fun! All were winners, and after the competition, they savored delicious hot chocolate and banana bread.

Over the past few weeks our residents have been enjoying cooking, bowling, and visits with Thelma and Louise, our two resident cats. Petting or playing with a cat can be so therapeutic, reducing feelings of lonliness and brightening a person’s day. Here you can see Mary Lou petting Thelma. Our residents love to visit the activities room and share some special time with our furry friends!

Leavitt Family Jewish Home Awarded CMS Five-Star Quality Rating

October 26, 2022

JGS Lifecare, a leading health care system serving seniors and their families, Is proud to announce that the Leavitt Family Jewish Home has received the prestigious Five-Star Quality Rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). This designation reflects the highest number of stars allotted to a skilled nursing facility. Currently, there are a select number of nursing homes that have been awarded this distinction. The Leavitt Family Jewish Home offers both short-term rehabilitation services as well as long-term comprehensive care.

“What a tremendous accomplishment it is by our staff to achieve a Five-Star Rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services,” remarked Rob Whitten, President of JGS Lifecare, the nonprofit that operates the Leavitt Family Jewish Home. “These are extremely hard times for the healthcare industry in our state and our country and this designation speaks volumes about the incredible employees we have at the Leavitt Family Jewish Home. Earning this Five-Star designation is a testament to our skilled and compassionate staff, our strong commitment to excellence and our dedication as an organization to provide the highest caliber of care possible.”

To receive a five-star rating, nursing homes are judged by three components. Health inspections are one means of evaluating a residence. The rating is based upon information from the last three years of onsite inspections, including both standard surveys and complaint surveys. Secondly, a rating is given based upon staffing, which details information about the number of hours of care provided on average to each resident each day by nursing staff and other healthcare providers. The final category involves quality measures, which includes data on how well nursing homes are caring for their residents’ physical
and clinical needs.

Today the five-star rating system has become a critical tool for the public to measure the quality and performance of a skilled nursing facility. Nursing homes with five stars are considered well above average quality. Adds Whitten, “We work very hard, day in and day out, to achieve and maintain this five-star rating. We are so proud of our staff!”
