Message from Rob Whitten, President of JGS Lifecare

August 10, 2022

Dear Residents and Families,

I hope everyone is enjoying the summer sun, even though the temperatures have been extreme during the first two weeks of August. To that end, please know we implement a variety of indoor activities when the weather is consistently above normal. We bring the “outside in” with garden parties, BBQ celebrations, and delicious ice cream treats. Frequent hydration is also a priority.

As you can imagine, I’m very excited to be begin my new role as President of JGS Lifecare. For me, the most important part of my role is my interaction with all of you. The feedback of our families and residents is crucial to the continuous success of this organization.

I look forward to working with all of you on a daily basis. Here’s to a safe, healthy and fun-filled August!

Warm regards,

Rob

JGS Lifecare’s 41st Annual Frankel-Kinsler Classic Day of Tournaments Rallies Support for the Care of our Elders

August 11, 2022

Under beautiful skies, JGS Lifecare hosted the 41st Annual Frankel-Kinsler Classic Day of Tournaments at Twin Hills Country Club in Longmeadow. Drawing over 200 guests attracted to golf, card-playing tournaments, and a celebratory awards dinner, the event raised over $115,000 to support senior care at The Leavitt Family Jewish Home, Ruth’s House Assisted Living, Sosin Center for Rehabilitation, Wernick Adult Day Health Care, Spectrum Home Health and Hospice Care, and Genesis House.

“We’re overwhelmed by the tremendous show of support from businesses and individuals throughout Western Massachusetts, said vice president of development and communications Susan Halpern. “Event proceeds will enrich programming and services for the more than 400 people cared for each day across the JGS Lifecare family of services, as well as support staff skill and career advancement through the funding of educational scholarships.”

Co-Chairman, Jeff Grodsky, welcomed participants at the awards dinner and reminded them that the event honors the memory of Michael Frankel, a past Chairman of the JGS Board who died suddenly in 2013 at the age 49, and the Raymond and Herman Kinsler families, longtime leaders and supporters of JGS Lifecare.

Dr. Stuart Anfang, chairman of the JGS Lifecare board of directors, offered his greetings and gratitude to all supporters and attendees, and provided an update on recent achievements at JGS Lifecare. He noted recent renovations to Ruth’s House Assisted Living Residence, made possible by a generous contribution from the Ruth and David B. Katz Family and the Ralph and Ruth Webber Family. He also noted that Northeast Rehab Associates, Inc., under the direction of Cherie Stack, has now moved its practice to the JGS Lifecare campus, bringing its specialized orthopedic, cardiac, pulmonary and respiratory care, to Sosin Center for Rehabilitation, taking advantage of Sosin’s non-institutional setting to offer person-centered rehabilitation services.

Israel Schepps awarded tournament prizes and Richard Halpern announced raffle winners. Event Sponsors include The Lynn D. and Gilbert A. Haberman Family Fund at the Jewish Endowment Foundation, a division of the Jewish Federation of Western MA – on behalf of the Haberman, Katz and Webber families; Harry Grodsky & Co., Inc.; Kleeberg Sheet Metal & Mechanical Services; Steven & Georgianne Roberts; HUB Retirement & Wealth Management formerly Epstein Financial Services; PeoplesBank; The Albert & Judith Goldberg Family Foundation; Alekman DiTusa LLC; Century Investment; CliftonLarsonAllen, LLP; Donna, Emma & Joely Frankel; Kaste Industrial Machine Sales, Inc.; NEFCO; ProCare LTC Pharmacy; and Spartan Auto Care Centers.

Look What’s Happening at JGS in August

August 11, 2022

Residents and their families at the Leavitt Family Jewish Home have been enjoying our summer activities. To help beat the heat, our “Friendly” Ice Cream Social, and our 4th of July Patriotic Sundaes (vanilla ice cream with strawberry syrup and fresh blueberries!) – kept folks cool and smiling. After all, who doesn’t love ice cream? Other activities included accordion music with John, jewelry making, painting shell crafts, movie matinee, painting birdhouses, and ice cream in the coffee shop.

The month began with excellent musical entertainment. Freddie Marion, the son of our very own Una Mae Falcetti, performed for our residents. Una Mae was so proud! We can’t wait to have Freddie back again.

Additionally, Lisa Pernice performed on our C-1 patio. Many of our residents joined in on the fun by playing instruments. Sam Moses played the bongo, Angel Ortega kept rhythm with the Maracas, David Aminia played the drum with his wife Sharon by his side. It was a memorable day indeed.
